Abby Mills returns to Harper's Island for her best friend's wedding. Seven years previously, a man named John Wakefield murdered six people on the island, Abby's mother being one of them. Wakefield was said to have been shot dead in the wake of the killings by Sheriff Mills, Abby's father. However, Abby's return to the island coincides with the start of a new series of killings, an event that throws widely held assumptions into doubt and threatens to reveal hidden truths.

I don't know, i think the killer should be a man, as there were references to the killer being a "he" (both in Harper's Island and in Harper's Globe).
