Holy shit, I didn't realize my last entry was in effin October...!

Well, I guess it's mostly because nothing ever exciting really happens to me. Or at least I totally forget by the time I get on my bus and train for the ride home. I like to take a "deep cleansing nap" on the train.

Good News
But anyway...! Thanks to Black Friday, I have upgraded my computer! :D I've had small upgrades before (gratefully provided by my brother), but this is the first time I've bought all of my parts. It's basically a total rehaul. New CPU, motherboard, HD, video card, DVD burner (Oh yeah, also had to buy a new power supply, but didn't know until I had alllll my components, hahaaa). Only thing that is staying is my Audigy. So goodbye my 7-year-old computer~

HELLO COMPUTER THAT CAN RUN CRYSIS, fuck yeaaaarrrrh!

I also purchased L4D2 (which will be arriving later this month), but I am now slightly regretting it D= witcheessss aaahhhhhhhhh

But yeah, even if I can't beat any of y'all in fps skillz, I'll beat all y'all in computer performance!

[edit: Ok, since some of you asked...lawl, if it's better than your computer, it's probably only but not by much. BUT it's a huge difference for me, since I couldn't even run the new Sam and Max game without it being choppy for me, hahaa.

Intel i5-750 2.66GHz Quad-Core CPU
Uh, this motherboard, lol
2 Sticks of 2GB ram
SAPPHIRE Vapor-X Radeon HD 5750; CrossFireX compatible!

aaaand then stuff that doesn't flag much interest...

Sony DVD burner
750G HD
700W Power Supply!

I told my brother what I was looking for, so he helped me shop around for Black Friday deals. I don't have a good head for hardware!

Oh uh... another note is, I still haven't put it all together yet... o__o]

Embarrassingly Funny News
I almost went to work in my pajama pants last Thursday. D: I got to the bus station, only to find that I still had them on.

My first reaction, "How in the hell did THIS happen??"

And then I remembered I put on my turtleneck, but because it was so cold, I put on my sweater and jacket before my pants DDDDD:

Had to call my mom to pick me up so I could switch out. I had a huge company breakfast to go to (departmental bonding + free food!), and also I had a vendor coming in to make a demo presentation on our campus that I initiated. DDDDD: SRSLY, OF ALL DAYS

I called her all panicked, "(in Mandarin) MOM! I'm not wearing my pants! DDD:"

To which she was like, "WHAT?! ... wait, which ones?" (since adding an extra syllable can make it mean [under]pants)

In the end, I was 30 mins late, late to the breakfast, and had to clock in extra time on Friday to make up for it.

Bad News
I caught my brother's stomach flu. D: Haven't been able to really eat good solid food in the past 2 days, but thankfully I don't have it as bad as my brother and mom. They've been both throwing up and severe runs-- I only got the runs.

So I've been partaking in a lot of soda and soup.

Sucky thing is, I can't call in sick tomorrow, because of...

REALLY BAD NEWS
lawwwl, I screwed up REALLY FUCKING BAD at work last Friday.

I processed some changes going by the Financial date (I should have went with our HR processing date) in our system, but didn't know that it would kick off and change all these other things on our side. I was only 30 minutes in until I found I shitted things up pretty royally for a boatload of employees.

In a panic, I stopped, and wailed to my <strike>work spouse</strike> <strike>soulmate</strike> friend at work 8. Lol, the first thing she did was point and laugh at me. And then when she found out how bad it was, she put an ass-load of effort to comfort and help me revert things back to normal.

We spent a cumulative time of about 6 hours putting things back to normal. I did a quick audit, and unfortunately, I STILL FUCKED UP, laaaaaaawl. And it has to do with someone's pay...! DDDDD:

I clocked in some more time in the weekend to at least give me more time on Monday to work on it. I have until 5pm Monday to fix it before Payroll runs again.

Hopefully it was only one person. I had notified Finance and Accounting already about my initial mistake, and I know I have to send another about this guy on Monday. I am dreading it...

Amazing, I didn't know I could hate myself so much more now that I fucked up this other guy's pay info.

So yeah. hahaaa. I knew I'd make a huge mistake sometime, but holy shit damn, it just has to be during the time I'm extremely slammed AND still need to get my Annual Review. YARRRG. Well, I guess that's really when shit happens anyway-- WHEN THINGS MATTER THE MOST.

Oh Yeah, I hope you guys had a great Thanksgiving~! Well, for the people in the states. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I uh... don't believe there's a Thanksgiving outside of the US...?

Isn't she effing beautiful? Seriously, what a steal at $129.99 after rebate.

Always wanted a bass, but didn't think about it until my bro emailed me about stands being on sale at musiciansfriend. Jumped on it right away after seeing it. <3<3 I'm in total love right now. Probably should have waited a little before purchasing, but I don't think I'd regret buying this one.

Also bought this grab bag from burt's bees.....

And got a FREE PANTY voucher in the mail from Victoria Secret for the first time (FINALLY, bitches)!

Oh yeah, and one tangent.
first few seconds were uncomfortable. I heard a loud splat, and thought it was a drop water that got in my right eye. I rubbed a bit, and I thought I had it under control.

and then it dawned on me that it was a bug. wriggling in. my. eye.

Previously, it was Defcon 50. Now it's Defcon 1. Shit shit shit shit shit holy shit

I'm panicking-- I don't have a mirror, lost my eyedrops, and don't even have water. My bus-pool friend confirms that it's a fairly large black spot in the bottom of my eye.

I'm frantically trying to calculate the best course of action. Walk back to the office, use the restroom and be late for my bus? Keep on going and hope I rub it out?

Being the shrewd woman that I am, I refused to get home half an hour later. So I keep on trucking, rubbing every part of my eye until it's excruciatingly dry.

and then, tada! After 5 minutes, it's finally out!

So yes! I will now be carrying a mirror, water, and find my eyedrops.

I got pretty scared this morning, but after consulting with Dr. Google (bless his soul), it's actually (sadly) pretty common. ... *sigh*.

and unfortunately, though it tapered down to almost none in the afternoon, it started flaring up again just now. AAAAGH I feel like using a spoon and just SCOOPING my whole left temple out

Also, on the subject of sudden pain....I was riding on the train yesterday about to fall asleep and hOLY shiT all of a sudden I had this TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRRRRRIBLE pain in the left side of my butt, down to mid thigh. DDDDD:

It continued for the whole 45 minute commute, just going off at random moments. ;____; I think it was a pinched sciatica nerve, and like the ice pick headaches, I don't know how to undo it ;_________;

SUCKS! Why does it seem like growing older just means "discovering" new pain and learning how to deal with it?

new MTG rules sucks ass

MTG rules, kickin' in next month.

I find the (2) swap of terminology a little annoying (how is it that "remove from game" is confusing? seriously?)

I really liked (3B) Mana Burn :( It's just one of the joys of Magic when you force your opponent to have to take extra damage for unused resources.

(5) Combat Damage No Longer Uses the Stack is pretty shitty. Extremely, actually. No more casting spells inbetween damage.

Also what sucks, is that assigning damage to multiple targets (n) can only occur when (n-1) targets are killed. limits wonderful damage post-battle :(

I'm also pretty surprised about (3a) and (4). I've always played it like the new rules, so I guess that's 1.5 less things to care about.

I always think of things, but I can never remember at the end of the day.

*Could*tileverrr i am so lame
I'm not sure if you've ever had to make a Popsicle Stick Bridge in middle school, but we had this Bridge Unit in middle school, and I've always thought cantilevers were pretty stupid. What do you use them for except for support and sub-par bridges*?

And then I realized that most of the seats on the electric metro train are cantilevers! WELL THEY'RE NOT SO STUPID NOW

*Comment coming from a non-civil engineer

Taser + M16 + Lidar! and LOTS of exclamation marks!!

Thanks to my company The Aerospace Corporation, we have occasional fairs: Health Benefits Fair, *Some Nationality* Fair, and just recently... a Security and Safety Fair....

...to which the El Segundo Police brought in a drug sniffing dog in training (Ah! So cute! He didn't do that that well; but he was pretty well trained in general!) and to 8 and my excitement... they were packin' heat!

So we went to the table all excited, hahahaaa. And the police Sargent starts showin' us wimmin the toolz of his trade... the Taser, M16 and Lidar.

After getting hooked and marathoning Mythbusters (Thanks, James), you get to learn a lot about tasers. So I wasn't all that impressed. But they are unexpectedly quite loud! And really threatening looking! I felt chills just as he was engaging the sparks. It was live, and holy shit, the crackle of it really wakes you up!

aaah, the M16. It feels great in your arms. It's nice and weighty. But not hefty. And it's actually not as heavy as I thought! Albeit it was a pneumatic training M16 (it had an pneumatic cord at the butt of the rifle), according to the Sargent, it was an exact replica in both weight and firing power, right down to the kickback.

And then the Lidar, lol. Doesn't work so well when you're testing it on cars that aren't moving, of course. I tried to volunteer 8 to run away, but she didn't take the bait. :(

Scissor Sculpture
This is pretty amazing! If you're arachnophobic, well... :T Remember it's just only scissors. Much of it due to 8, lol. :T

Her and her suggestions! my God, for a coworker who insists, "You shouldn't spend so much time on this webpage...", she loves fine-tuning things to the last bit.

I can't say I didn't have fun, though I sincerely think that the webpage didn't need to be so thoroughly built.

And the funny thing is that *I'M* probably going to be the ONLY person using this site so much, since it's been customized by me.
aaaah man, if you're really into murder mysteries like I am, you'd love Harper's Island.

(summary from wiki)

Abby Mills returns to Harper's Island for her best friend's wedding. Seven years previously, a man named John Wakefield murdered six people on the island, Abby's mother being one of them. Wakefield was said to have been shot dead in the wake of the killings by Sheriff Mills, Abby's father. However, Abby's return to the island coincides with the start of a new series of killings, an event that throws widely held assumptions into doubt and threatens to reveal hidden truths.

[edit: also as a supplementary, there's Harper's Globe; a webisode of other events happening on Harper's Island at the same time, with a few extra people]

What if this ends like the movie Clue where everyone who is still alive killed somebody and Wakefield isn't dead.

Cal killed Uncle Marty for hitting on Chloe

Jason Voorhies killed the priest b/c he was in his woods.

Abby killed Kelly b/c she didnt' want to bunk with her.

Nikki killed Lucy b/c she got pissed Lucy's dog was walking on the bar.

Trish killed Hunter b/c she was mad he didnt' love her.

Booth killed Booth b/c he was a retarded pussy.

Henry killed Mr. Wellington for tryign to get him out of the family.

Shea killed Richard because he was an ass.

Sully killed Malcom b/c Malcom was burning the money.

OMFG case fucking closed.

I don't know, i think the killer should be a man, as there were references to the killer being a "he" (both in Harper's Island and in Harper's Globe).

damn, maybe it is Cal. It was always fun to choose which one to pick with my brother, and we'd switch off scratching it off with a quarter.

I didn't start doing it again until really recently (I bought one on my 18th birthday, my 21st, and another few here and there), but now I think I'm totally going to buy one every time I see a machine.

Because winning is addicting!

I won $10 from this "Hot Chile Doubler" scratcher, and apparently, I beat the odds 1:125! (There are 4 combos to getting $10, I have a 4:500 chance to get it; 1:125)

Also, those scratcher machines don't give change, so it's besides the point that I had to buy $5 worth of scratchers and never intended on buying the winning ticket anyway, but...

I WON I WON I WON~! :D And I've just about broke even, or am at a net of negative "a fewer" dollars.

Also, now that I know that calottery.com publishes all of the odds, I will be proceeding to create a beautiful excel sheet to figure which would give me the best chance of winning. Also am thinking of calling that 1-800 number to find out which scratchers have already had their large winnings collected. We'll see how this all goes!

The other unfortunate but sadly hilarious twist... my dad had to go to his friend's son's wedding whom of which he hasn't seen in a long time.

In a last-minute rush to buy a gift, my brother "volunteered" to sell a wii fit to him (yes my brother the entrepreneur). We wrap it up. It looks exactly like a laptop or netbook, but well. what can you do. He totes it to the wedding, late.

My dad comes home a few hours later and excitedly proceeds to tell us about the wedding. And show us pictures. And point out the couple. ...Yeah, the couple were... overweight. And when we saw that, we totally burst out in shame and laughter. blerg! We totally didn't anticipate nor forsee the possibility of offending them with the gift. The only thing we really thought of was, "Hey, what if they don't have a Wii?"

...

She wasn't absolutely sure of the infection, but prescribed me antibiotic ear drops for me due to the pain. 2-4 drops, 4x a day. I've got a follow up next week.

Also got a full blood panel done to check out everything-- apparently 11 tests are going to be run.

In anticipation for the needle pricking, I told everyone I met I was afraid of them (all individual occasions, thinking they would be the one to administer the test), and all 3 laughed. The lady at the lab who actually took my blood was very nice, without being fake nor condescending. Had a light southern accent. She switched to a smaller gauge needle in response to my nervousness, and also went with one connected to a long tube instead of the vial itself.

It's an odd feeling when your blood is drawn out of a tube. You can feel the heat radiating from the tube, and you can't help but think "holy shit-- this is the essence of my life you are harvesting".

All in all, I left at 8a and got back at around 11:30a. :( Why does it take so long? Value added time amounted to about 30 minutes max. They really need to have a change. They are booking way too many people at one given time.

Woke up this morning pretty out of it. Thought I came down with a bit of fever (felt hot in the weekend prior at times, and also the afternoon before), so I called in sick today as well. In the end, it was a lot of sleeping, wasn't-able-to-fall-asleep sleeping, and just vegging out in front of my computer. I'm feeling better physically, but in terms of choices (emotionally? logically? self-esteemly?), I'm feeling worse.

Seriously, keeping yourself busy is one of the best things to do for your self-esteem. Takes your mind off of thinking about all the things you hate about yourself.

tldr; Doctor experience was not terrifying like I imagined. Also, I'm disappointed in myself! What else is new

Mondays are too hectic, and Fridays are a waste)

just finished my taxes; wow, e-filing really isn't any quicker!

It's also a great feeling to know you're about to get a HUEG lump-sum check of X amount of dollars.

Praying tomorrow work'll be gentle. I've got to ask my manager about my job status (stillll a temp), and looks like I just have to get used to being perpetually up to my britches in work (can't never seem to get the hang of workin' it down). Also must step up to the plate and act like the expert in this corporate project to clean up the intranet in tomorrow's meeting. Me and my big mouth.

social relations at work can.... be much improved. I suck at small talk, and it really shows. Why? can't seem to ask the right questions, nor duck out gracefully when the conversation gets unwieldy and starts eating large chunks of my time. I just come off as awkward with a whiff of stand-off-ish. ...

blerg. so many things to catch up on, but it's 11; way past my bedtime. brain; mandatory shut down

Weird how there's this odd crash-and-burn cycle during the holidays. It's all <3<3<3 in the beginning, but somehow it always turns out to end in my experiencing a large amount of contempt for myself.

Unfortunately the feeling came very early this year. And I think it's because I have little or no time to do anything except what I *have* to do-- not having any free time to hang out with friends (though I do have time designated for sleep that I could subtract from; that ain't cool) and just being pestered by my mother to do one thing or another.

I also only have Christmas Day and New Year's off. Still no vacation time, and absolutely fed up with my commute. i don't think i can survive this without something breaking.

ON THE OTHER HAND I got a special increase in my paycheck. I guess that's a bright side. NEVAR FORGET 12/20/08. Or shit, was that 12/21/08? Actually, it's 12/20 though damn...I think 12/21 is more interesting, it being a palindrome.
